Can change in weather affect arthritis?

Hi all

I have reactive arthritis and take 1000mg of Naproxen a day to help calm the symptoms. I was wondering if people find wether changes affects there arthritis, I find at the moment my joints are sore and think the cold weather does affect my condition I also find that damp/wet wether can also make my arthritis worse. Any one else find this?

Sure do. Cold makes me ache LOTS more. Wet, damp cold is also harder for me to take than dry cold. When it was 20 with snow on the ground but very dry air, I didn't hurt nearly as much as when it was 36 and raining.

Hello,

 

Oh Yes, I have alot of problems when the weather changes, my hands feel like they are twice the size they are and i have pain all over.  I also am bothered when a weather front is moving in, it is like you can feel the pressure.

 

We just had -31 below this morning and i am still feeling it tonight yet even though it has warmed up abit i can not warm up or stop the ache in my arms and legs.

Hi,

It sure seems to affect mine! I get much more achy and the stiffness gets really bad. Another strange thing I noticed lately, is everytime it snows here, I get pain behind both eyes, then eventually the pain travels to the right side of my head and becomes an awful headache. I don't know what that is all about, though.

I fully agree that weather has an effect on arthritis symptoms. I find that the cold, or snowy/or rainy days are days when I ache more than usual. This summer I could usually predict when it was going to rain and was 99% accurate, just because I would start to ache more.

Baybreeze I hope you get your headaches sorted out, that sounds wierd...and if it happens too much maybe you should see a doctor?  My mom says that if theres a change in the air...some kind of pressure in the air?... causes headaches for her as well.  She uses sinus medications to help with hers. She says that her headaches start behind her eyes when the "air pressure" changes.  Maybe you could ask your doctor if something like that is happening to you?

Thanks, TayIsa..unfortunately I really cannot have my headaches checked out now due to such tiny yearly caps on my health insurance. It's not even a comprehensive plan and would never pay for an MRI or some other expensive tests. So I just have to bear with it for now. And it's strange b/c this eye pressure then headache just started this winter, I don't recall this ever happening before.

Baybreeze, maybe you should keep a record of whats happening, and when you have the headaches and stuff to take with you the very next time you go to the doctors?
Sorry you cannot get into see a doctor.
Hope you get a handle on your headaches, we dont need headaches on top of all the other aches and pains we have....

Going from high to low very very baaaad!

 

That being said for my personal observations, my orthopedic guy says to figure out why things are bad on some days and not others will drive me crazy.
