Arthritis in big toe

I've had this condition for about 5 years. Now I have a bunion alongside of toe. Saw podiatrist yesterday and got a coretizone shot. I know surgery is best option to clean it out and probably fuse joint. Lower joint is closed and have a bone spur and chip alongside of toe. 6 weeks of missed work is a problem. Anyone out there have this done. How did it go. What about long term results. I'm usually on prostate board. First post here.
