Hi Everyone :)

I've been skulking around this forum for a while now... reading all the helpful advice and thought it was time to become an active participant. Hoping this doesn't sound vain, but I live in Los Angeles and it's already hard enough trying to keep up with everyone + dealing with my RA. I was with my dermatologist the other day and he told me that being on Humira would hinder my collagen from reproducing (that may not have been the exact wording - I was in shock when he told me). So basically, being on an immunosuppressant makes you age faster. I'm already on the skinny side so that will cause early wrinkles as well. I went cold turkey on my Humira 32 days ago but I always wonder (as do we all with RA) - was it really the Humira? Or is this something we have to deal with as RA sufferers no matter what medication we take? I'm sure having poor quality of sleep doesn't help either.

Just curious to see if anyone else has noticed this or read anything about it? I've been on Humira for about 5 years and the aging seems to have occurred within the past 2.

Hi Beatrice and welcome to the world of posting. Glad you joined in the conversations! I have been on biologics, humira and Enbril for almost 10 years now as have many here. I have never heard of that SE, and I have to admit that menopause has ad more of an impact on my aging experience than the meds I'm taking.
Is that the reason you chose to quit? I hope you find something at let's you rest easier, mentally and physically.

I've been on Humira for 6 years and live in OC, CA. No, can't say I have aged. Never heard about a relationship between biologics and aging. Sounds to me like your derm knows how to push the buttons.

Oh yeah......you know what REALLY ages you? It's being without biologics, in pain, with deformed joints that can't be surgically corrected. Yes, that trumps any kind of skin aging.

Pain will age a person much faster than any drug.

Ok well most. I've seen some meth heads that floored me how fast they declined.

Welcome aboard BTW, I hope that your decision to stop the Humira works out for you. I did this about 5 years back and it ended up being a very painful decision. My fingers and right hand are now deformed and in constant pain as a result. I hate saying that but I wish someone would have said it to me back then.

Very helpful... especially Don_D re: the fingers and hand damage... experiencing the same and I am looking to rectify the damage ASAP... I appreciate your honesty!!!!!!!
