Having a rough day or two here. What do you tell yourself to get you through the worst? Thanks ahead of time.

Would this be before or after the devil and the nono and the skull?
Mostly I try not to tell myself anything beyond "get up and pick up the phone or just lay here and pick up the phone" I am so not the best person to talk to myself when i'm down or stressed or just don't think I'm doing enough or doing it right(yes, I'm in counseling too).Luckily I have people who love me and people who understand me and people who do both. Oh, and I beat myself up for not being grateful enough too. Hope your feeling better wink

Hi I am bipolar as is my best friend.

Only from seeing her can I imagine what it is like for loved ones to watch someone they love wake up each morning and wish they hadnt or worse still watch a manic episode that they know is a car crash waiting to happen.

There is no hard and fast rule for getting out rough patches. I am struggling with it too just now after a few months of normal. I am taking just a few days to distract myself by writing.

Anyone who doesnt know what its like would say "take a walk or do some excercise" NOT MUCH HELP when there is no self control.

Dont be hard on yourself and remember this disorder is not an affliction it can also be a gift sometimes.

Recovery Plan: (in order over a couple of weeks)

Reduce stress (maybe take days off work or delegate responsibilities)
Get enough fluids
Resume medications as prescribed / call in to report symptoms
Fix and maintain sleep schedule (this is huge). Get 8 - 9 hours of sleep, no more or less
Clean up diet (no caffeine, alcohol, keep sugar and carbs moderate, eat your veggies and proteins!)
Begin gentle exercise in baby steps you feel confident with. Don't worry about your level - the improvement over time will give you satisfaction and the sense of accomplishment is powerful to fight depression.
