It takes months, even years, to get the right medications - in the right doses - to relieve symptoms of bipolar disorder. Your Dr. may not have found the right med (yet), you might not be at therapeutic dose.
Bottom line: Report symptoms to your Dr. She or he will know what to do.
Don't expect miracles.
I am type 1, rapid cycling, which is supposedly the most difficult type to treat. It took... a year? 18 months? Something like that to find the right meds and doses. My doses change frequently, but staying on the 3 same meds. Now I'm stable. I can't do a lot of things "normal" people do, but I'm thankful.
Some people never find medications that work. They can't tolerate them, side effects are intense, or their physical health deteriorates. My heart goes out to them.
I wish I could say "take your meds and everything will be better". I believe self-care is incredibly important (in addition to medication). I wish there was a better prognosis for all of us.
