Breast Cancer Biopsy

I had a lump that didn't feel right and have always had regular mammograms. I went to doc and he sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound and both test showed something abnormal. They did a core biopsy and sent it to be tested. Preliminary test show a non cancerous tumor but they have sent it to another lab for a second opinion. Has anyone ever had their second opinion come back diffferent and is this routine for them to do?

I know it sounds scary, but I'd be happy that they are being proactive and making sure nothing is there. Depending on what kind of tumor it is - is it a "tumor"? cyst? etc. they may still want to get it out. I had a lump, that they were going to let stay there as it wasn't cancerous. However I ended up having breast cancer outside of that particular lump I later found out.

I don't think a second opinion is a bad thing. I agree with Jacey that "proactive" is a good thing. I don't know why your doctor wants a second opinion, but I will tell you about a situation I had happen to me. Some doctors have labs that they don't fully trust, and that may be a lab that your insurance always insists on using first. I had that situation with my dermatologist. The second report I got was also, in the end, benign, but much more detailed and more to the doctor's liking.

Hope your next results are "benign" as well.
