help with finding PMS in Illinois

I lost my previous post so I will try again.  I am only four days in Illinois and I am getting blowed off by all my calls for help with a pain management specialist, primary care and arthritis doctors let alone the rest of them that i need to call.  I was lied to by one Dr. who is a phisiatrist and orthopedic specialist.  I guess he just didn't want to take me. I had no idea that it was this rough to replace doctors you really need and it makes you cry, and just want to give up. My former Pain Management Specialist (PMS) was the best doctor who worked closely with my other doctors and I now do not have anyone.  I had to move back to Illinois because of reasons out of my control.  I can't even begin to tell you the stress and physical pain I am in. 

does anyone out there have any knowledge of a good PMS here in Illinois.  I will drive if need be.  i have to find other doctors as well.  This is horrible and I am frightened to death at not knowing if I am going to be taken care of. Isn't a Phisiatrist a pain specialist that deals with pain only and is educated as such? I take oxy and it's only 5mg.  I like being monitored and taken good care of by the PMS so the arthritis doctors can focus on my diseases.  Can anybody give me advice and let me know what I can do.  please.  I am bside myself.  grannytoo 

Thank you white beard.  Your information gave me hope and calmed me down.  I am from central Illinois, too.  Around the Springfield, IL area.  although I don't mind traveling to get to a PMS since I was only seeing one about every two to three months.  I am so relieved to see this response this morning.   

I am going to do as you recommended and get ahold of my former docs.  I had eight specialists back in Virginia.  I am going to start with my primary care, Arthritis spec., and pain management specialist. When one mentions OXY, then heads turn.  But, if I didn't have it, I would be afixed to my bed and/or in a wheelchair.  

Have you ever been through this where you had to start fresh.  I had a great medical team back there in VA, but I love my home state and all my family is here. I have some serious bone disease and will be needing surgery soon.  I want my family with me.  I am so grateful for your response as I was very stressed over all the phone calls and bad responses.  So i will do it the right way and get ahold of doctor's in VA.  I will stay in touch with what I do, and probably ask more questions.

Thanks.  I am going to bother you with one more question, if I may.  When you say start over, does that mean on my meds, tests and diagnosis, or just my diagnosis. I know I will have to be considered a new patient.  I anticipated that.  What if I run out of any of my meds before i see a new doctor? I do have my MRIs, CTs, and Xrays.  also have the notes with details of the scans. 

Like I said I appreciate your help.

My pain management doctor is in Champaign, and is the head Doctor of the Spinal Pain Clinic at Christie Clinic there in Champaign. I do understand what you are going through, I am wanting to leave Illinois, and move to a somewhat warmer climate, and near a military installation so I can take advantage of my military retirement benefits! My biggest concern about moving is leaving my medical team and trying to find and establish a new one! I feel I have one of the best pain management doctors around. My PM doc not only treats pain but treats the "whole" patient! He orders test, and does referrals, and heck when I was having marital problems and then my subsequent divorce, he even referred me to a marriage counselor that would accept Medicare and Tricare! I have been with this Doctor for many many years now, and in my book he is definitely the Best! So there is good Pain Management Doctors here in Illinois!

greatgrandmatoo, if I can be of any further help to you, feel free to let me know. Moving can be a rather trying experience, and doing it while coping with chronic pain can just make it that much tougher! I do hope that your previous pain management doctor did take into account your possible lack of treatment do to your transition from him/her to your accquiring a new medical and pain management team.
