Hi everyone, I hope everyone is doing OK today. I just discovered that AAA had prescription discount benefits to members. I wasn't sure if anyone is, but I just learned today that a $39 script for gabapetan at Meijer will cost just over $16 with the AAA discount. I figured i needed to share this just in case. 8-)

Thanks so much for posting this, I just called up my pharmacy, and tgis will cut the cost of my BT med from $54 down to $36.... this will help soooo much!

Heck, that's almost worth the price of joining on its own. I had it when I was traveling for work a lot, and I always asked if they had a discount. Restaurants, hotels, coffee shops even. More often than not, there was something, even if it was free breakfast at the hotel restaurant.

But a prescription discount? That's something to look into. And you don't even have to own a car to get it. It'll cover whatever car you are in, even if you are a passenger.

And it's great for when you have a flat tire. They will send someone out to put the spare on for you. Even if it's sitting in your own driveway. Voice of experience. I couldn't get in there and wrestle with all of that stuff. I just let the tow truck driver deal with it. Swapped it out, and followed me to the closest tire shop no problem. And I think they still provide emergency gas if you need it. Up to like 5 gallons to get you to the next station if you run out by pushing the gas gauge a little too hard. No heavy lifting required.

And some states offer a discount on membership if you are disabled or qualify for a handicapped plate. Very underrated program. I'm a fan.

Edited to add - And don't forget about senior discounts. If you qualify, there's a ton more.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have been a member of AAA (Plus) since 1984 when I first got my driver's license!! My mom worked for them (in their Government Affairs) division for many years and I even worked at their Supernumber (1-800 number) for about a year wayyyy back when. Had fun memorizing all the area codes around the US...HAHA...

Anyway....sorry for the tangent!....For me, I still have a better discount with my meds without insurance at Sam's club as I've priced around...

So it's all about what meds we take, and making phone calls everywhere asking what the charge is for each med. Many places will "match" a price that you give them from another place as well.

We always love ways of finding less expensive costs for our health care!!!

Snowbunny, yes, Costco is still WAAAYYYYY cheaper, I can get my BT meds from them for $15. But they are over 50 miles from my house, the physical toll was too much to go down there every time I needed a precription filled, plus having to wait a day or two, to get someone to drive me down there, it was getting rediculous lol.

I tried to arrange to have my older brother pic up my prescriptions, because he commutes down there 5-6 days a week, but the pharmasist said they wouldn't release any of the pain meds to him, just my other meds like my glucosamine and my nacea medication... what a pain in the rear it is lol! Frankly speaking, I think the only reason they wouldn't is because of his appearance, he's a regular rough-neck, works with his hands, and looks like he does at the end of the day; combine that with his tattoos, some of which are of pretty provoking of such treatment, one on his forearm is of a particular leaf that I think you can figure out what kind would raise a pharmasist's eyebrow...

Anyways, so I've been getting my BT meds here in town, and since work comp says they will omly pay for 1 kind of pain med at a time until a judge tells them otherwise, it's coming out of my pocket.

Matt, have you tried negotiating in town and letting them know that the price is too high? Many places will try to match to save keep your business.

Believe me, I have zero insurance so everything is out of pocket for me from meds to my PM appts.

Haven't tried negotiating the price, I really didn't think they would, I take them to the Sav-on pharmacy inside the grociery store, I didn't think a big chain like that would be open to that.... but I'll have to have a talk with the pharmacist next time I'm in there, the $54 per fill is getting bad. The weekend pharmacist there is a friend that I went to high-school with, so I'll ask him when I go in for groceries Saturday morning, they must have some kind of savings plan... I know my twin brother went in there for the same medication for his wife when she had 5 teeth pulled, and they only had to pay $22; and their deductible on their insurance is that they have to pay 100% of costs til they meet $3000 worth of medical cost for the year, so insurance didn't cover a penney of that prescription... same med, and quantity. Its frustrating, especially with my son, if he had a severe medical problem right now, I feel like we'd be up a creek without a paddle. Our ER only charges $99 for most visits, which covers up to 3 Xrays, and I can't even spare that right now, without skipping another bill. It's gonna be such a relief when MediCal finally goes through.

There are in fact many companies that have prescription discount plans and many people use the company and don't even know.

A few off the top of my head, Rent-a-center,Labor Ready, home phone services such as Altell,I believe it's Verizon can't remember. Someone told me Aaron's rental also has one.

Maybe a Google will list them? I had a list somewhere and Will try to find it. Meantime if you use any of those and even if you dont but family does,most include family members up to like 6 members total on the card,you can use theirs.

Alot of them giving 30-60% off generic cost.

Hi Kaely...welcome back to the boards:) Yes, I am in the US.

Without hijacking the thread, I was trying for disability and got denied late last year which wasn't really a huge shock but I've decided that I am going to try and return to work for at least the next few years and then go from there. I just don't have the financial means to continue the disability process and the stress alone with that is not healthy for me. So, I am blessed in that my PM and Neuro will do all they can to help me pain wise and thankfully I live in an area where I can try and find a job I can physically handle.

I also just got accepted into a free clinic where I've been getting some much needed tests done since I've been without insurance so long.

Snowbunny, If i may ask, what kind of work are you looking for? The reason I ask is that I am SUPER with computers and would be more than happy to help you with that if you needed some. 8-) There isn't a program that either I don't know, or wouldn't take me more than 10 minutes to figure out. (not engineering though, not that smart LOL) Here at work, we had an issue with the other office person and she was let go rather quickly, and i had to self learn payroll, fringe benefit payments, accounts payable, tax payments, etc. So i can definitely help in that area, if you, or anyone on here, needs any. 8-)
