ACA/obamacare

i'm kinda in the dark about this new obamacare (aca) i have medicare and medicaid. does anybody
else ave this kind of insurance and will i be affected by the change. not sure if i have to apply for
that or not. sorry off topic but wondering if anybody has some straight answers. thank you in advance..

We have to be careful with this kind of topic as discussing politics is not allowed on the forum and this can be a "heated" discussion. So it's best to try and refer to the law in it's name only which is the Affordable Care Act.

You should not need to do anything as you already have government provided insurance.

No worries:) It just seems to be a very polarizing issue these days and the law is quite complicated so it's best that people go to the website to read about it or if they have questions about their own insurance now, then contact their provider..

We just found out about the Extra Help for my mom back this summer and BOY, has that made a HUGE difference!!

For me, being with Medicare the past 2 years, and now starting January, will have full VA Medical coverage, the ACA will have no direct effect on myself. Feel fortunate there, as the VA will cover me 100% for eyes, dental, etc. The dentures I so sorely need, will be paid in full by the VA, including the dental surgery, and also found out they cover hearing aids too (don't need them), but nice to know.

My wife has her own health insurance via BCBS of SC. For her company, despite some of the "stories" one hears, rates went down for 2014, and coverage went up. A lot depends on the size of the company you work for, and what state you live in. With my double coverage, it makes no sense for us to spend the money to have me on her policy.

Some workers either don't know or don't care. That is why it is so very important to let people know about things like the Extra Help through forums like this. Even if you have no need for it, someone you know may. I'm so glad you're finally getting the help.

There is another thought, the income amount vary some from state to state. The income requirements for Extra Help are different than they are for straight Medicaid.

Just want to point out 1 thing about nvrthesame's situation and that is she was dealing with 2 different states. Each state has its own rules in effect for food stamps, medicaid, etc.
