What are you New Year traditions? (OT but I hope its okay)

Every New Year I cook black eyed peas, greens and chitterlings (continued tradition from my Grandma). I usually go to church to bring in the New Year but I have a sick seven year old so we are having a private party together at home in our jammies.

How about you guys? What do you do on near Year's Eve and New Year's Day?

Sorry, I know its off topic. I hope it's okay. Just wondering what others do around the globe.

New Years Eve my husband and I go out for dinner and get back home by 7:00 pm. Then at 9:00 pm we go to bed and set the alarm for 11:45 so we can see the ball drop in New york City on tv.

Then the next day we have pork and sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. It is a Pennsylvania dutch thing. we are suppose to eat a pile of sauerkraut so you have good luck for the year. It works for us. I love the parades and he watches football in the afternoon.

We do sourkraut too! I never knew it was for good luck. I know black eyed peasare dfor wealth and greens are for health... And pork is for something. LoL

Hey Linds -

We just finished up a night of family and friends...... we do a big fondue meal on New Year's Eve..... and New Year's Day - we REST! Watch movies...... TV...... games as a family. Just spend time together for a day - which is great because of lives are normally crazy busy. It's nice to slow down for a day and just be restful.

Had an indoor picnic on floor while watching a bones marathon with hubby. Drank some pink moscato by barefoot. Yum. Then watched ball drop. Kissed. Hubby went to bed and I stayed up in pain and baked. I made cupcakes and a sherry trifle.

Was nice. Last year we celebrated at casino. I kinda like the way we did it this year more.

So when hubby gets home later, it's going to be dinner and some trifle. :-).

This sounds strange, after reading all of your wonderful traditions!

For the past 15 years, maybe longer, I watch Three Stooges marathons. Mind you, I'm not a fan at all the rest of the year....not my cup of tea.

But there's something familiar about how it's a tradition we've carried on. Cuddled up under the blankets, watching a few hours of silly slapstick I would otherwise avoid. (Very strange).

After reading all your foodie traditions, I'm getting hankerings for my Nana's German cooking!

This may not sound like fun but it is very satisfying and relaxing when it's done.

New Year's Eve or at latest, New Year's Day, get the crew, whoever's available, to clean up Christmas before they go to school, jobs. I tell them we have to get ready for the new year. What I really mean is if I don't get you to do it I will have to do it all myself.

Finish the leftovers or throw them out. cookies too.

Then I can crash on the couch.

Hey Linds, its ok to get off the topic sometimes. I remember the tradition of the greens, chitterlings and black eyed peas, mmmm. have not had that in years. My mother use to cook this dish every new years. I had cooked some good ole beef oxtails and field peas myself. My resolution is that God will allow me to have less pain so that I can enjoy raising my 8 year old son. My pain keeps me from doing so many things that use to give me joy. I hope that with this pain pump and all that I don't have to feel the pain as much, Im usually an active person but lately I'm in bed laying down due to the level of pain.
