I didn't want to hijack the other thread regarding trochanteric hip bursitis, so here goes. I am having a difficult time dealing with this. Due to stomach and blood disorder issues, I am unable to take any NSAIDS, including topical voltaren gel. I'm also unable to tolerate steroids due to severe side effects. I've tried lidoderm patches, tiger balm, ice, heat, stretching, PT, & aquatherapy, with little or very short lived results.
I exercise regularly, but have had to alter my routine due to the pain.
Compounding the issue is a strange lump in the area where the pain originates. My PCP made note of the lump when he DXed the bursitis and referred me to PT (which did not help) & stated that if the lump grew larger he'd refer me to a surgeon. It has grown larger, so I'm wondering if it's putting additional pressure on the bursa. While I am concerned about maintaining my health & fitness, I'm actually scared to have the lump excised & biopsied. I know this sounds stupid, but I'm just flat out scared & I'm not sure why, plus I also really don't have the time to go thru something like this because I am the primary breadwinner, and primary caregiver of my elderly parents...so I haven't gone back to see my doc.
I guess my question is twofold; 1. Does anyone know of any other treatment options for hip bursitis besides what I have already done, and 2. Has anyone been afraid to get a lump biopsied, and if so, how did you overcome your fear?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts or suggestions
