Seashell said it better than I can. Surgery is the last resort. I'm old enough to be your mother and have fought to avoid surgery for too many years to count.
I'd get another test injection and see if another neurotomy would help. I won't have a hunk of metal stuck in my back or get my spine
opened up as long as I can avoid it.
I broke my neck and needed a cage and a piece of cadaver bone put in to fuse C3 to the next vertebra. This caused another set of vertebrae to fuse themselves. I can't turn my head and have peripheral pain as a result. There are always side effects!
I used to lift grain sacks too, but now get my exercise driving the tractor. It's pretty good for strengthening my back muscles and is helping with the pain.
