TENS for Periformis Syndrome?

I dealt with PS for about 5 years... But it eventually corrected.

You should have a doctor or PT make sure your sacroiliac is aligned.

As for tens, I've found it very effective on upper back/neck spasms... I would crank the current, cause the muscle to contract, then drop current, repeating every few seconds for a couple minutes.

I used to do it nightly for years.

Yesterday, April 24, I had my appt with the Physical Medicine Dr. She was very thorough and highly suspects a disc bulge is causing the pain rather than PS (as diagnosed by my primary care doc). So she scheduled an MRI on May 9 to confirm. Once she reads the results we’ll decide on a course of action. She also prescribed a low dose of Gabapentin for nerve pain. I’ll post again after my next appt. with the Physucal Medicine Dr.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I've already had one surgery because of a herniated lumbar disc and I'm pretty sure the same thing's going on again 6 years later, but in the other leg now.

The PA at my pain clinic kept saying, "it's probably muscular," but now I've finally seen an actual MD and she agrees with me that the disc has probably re-herniated. So, just waiting for my insurance to ok the MRI. Ugh.

This pain just takes over your life, doesn't it? I finally found a way I can sleep on my back, but probably only because this doctor is humanely letting me have some Valium. My upper back is sore when I wake up (I hate sleeping on my back) but it beats the heck out of no sleep at all.
