traffic kept me from pm doc today

I was in bumper to bumper traffic for 3 hours today trying to get to my pm appt. Needless to say I never got there. So I have to wait till the 28th my meds run out the 27th.

Do you have meds for Break through pain? And are your pain meds extended release, (every 8 or 12 hours?) It is unfortunate that things like that happen, and it irks me that some doctors are not more sympathic to those type of situations, especially the ones that are prescribing these type of medications that one can become physically dependent on! I do wish you well and hope it works out for you!

Have you explained to them when your meds will run out? My PM's office will set up an appointment with a Nurse Practioner if I miss an appointment & will run out of meds before my PM can see me. The NP doesn't do any med changes & she can't do injections or anything like that, but at least it will help out in the meantime. Only downside is that it means an extra co-pay, but sometimes it's worth it.

If they can't get you in with someone, ask them to have the doctor or nurse call you & talk to you about going through withdrawal. The first 72 hours are the worst, so please don't try to just suck it up & deal with it. Your doctor should at a minimum be aware that you will be out of meds.

Sorry to hear that Melissa girl , Thats a bummer , 3 hours , Wow !!!! Well I hope your pain isn't that bad for that period of time Melissa , I hope you wiil be able to enjoy the good weather and that you'll be able to do all the things you want to do ! confused  I feel your stress!!!  This morning I had an appointment with my Neurologist that is an hour away, and I didn't know that half of the trip would be under construction!!!  Needless to say I made it with about 2 minutes to spare before they would have made me reschedule.  I even called and said that I may be a few minutes late due to the contruction, but they told me that I could only be 15 minutes late before I would be cancelled and they would have to reschedule!  Thank goodness I made it, I was having the EMG on my legs today and would have been really upset if I had missed that appointement...I have been waiting a long time for it as it was and if they had to reschedule it would have been another month!  You really would think that they would take travel issues a little less rigid.  Its not like we plan on having traffic congestion or road costruction!

I always get a sad chuckle out of those signs in doctor's offices that say: If you are more than "X" minutes late you will be rescheduled" and then you end up sitting and waiting for 20-30 minutes beyond your appointment time to actually see the doctor.

Yuck! I hate traffic like that. I'm sorry that you were unable to make it to your appointment. That is really frustrating for sure! I had a similar thing happen to me one time & I remember how disappointing it was. I hope you can work something out with the doctor's office & get them to fit you in earlier.

   Dear Melissa,

 

     I am sorry to hear you missed your appiontment. It must have beeen awfully frustraiting to have had to travel 3 hrs just to be turned away. That had to have been frustraiting to no end. I sure hope they can work you in sooner.

 

     Are you taking any meds that cannot be lapsed? If so, perhaps, they would be willing to write you scripts for more extended peroids of time. That way you can just keep office visits for physical checks and assessments. I keep my eye to eye appointments for just the more pressing stuff like test results or problems I have had. That way I am not wasting too much time talking about meds refills or labs & Xray referrals. All those things can be done via telephone or email.  I leave the medicine refills and renewals between the pharmacy and doctors to be taken care of. Rarly there are any problems, but if there is the pharmacy just give me a few days medicine while the new scripts or authorization stuff is getting taken care of. Many of my medicines cannot be abruptly stopped or I will have some serious problems occur.

I'm so sorry about your traffic problems and missed appt. I haven't had that happen myself, but I bet it can be so distressing.

Traffic was at a halt for over an hour last Monday due to weather and thankfully we took the exit just before a major crash that backed it up again for many, many hours. I was so glad to be home!!

I hope you will be able to find an earlier apt. Perhaps trying a nurse who is sympathetic to you personnally could help. Just a thought...

sorry I havent responded sooner.

Today was an awfully bad day.
the pm clinic was very good about the situation.
I had to call pm 3 times while in traffic. The original appt wad at 11am. Then i called and they moved it to 1130. WHwn I realized I wouldnt make it until at least 12 I called and they said they could get me in at 3pm. I have to get my kids off the bus then so I asked for the next available appt. That is this friday. I should run out of meds thursday night so I should be able to make it without major problems. I take fentanyl patches and oxycodone 3x a day. So I really cant do without for too long. Then I will have to hope that the pharmacy has the meds that day, because I am trying to go to NH the next day for the holiday.
Thanks for your words of support. Couldnt do it with out you guys.

Melissa,

Maybe you could call the pharmacy ahead of time & let them know that you will be in on Friday for a refill. That way they will have a heads up & will be able to order more meds if needed.
