Almost a year ago I had a flu and pneumonia shot. about a week after that I was at work and I experienced a sudden numb and tingling on my left side of my face and lips. The feeling then moved down the entire left side of my body. After work I went to the ER. They did all kinds of tests,MRI's, xrays, and blood work. They kept me overnight for observation and did more tests. They concluded that I must have had a mild stroke or TIA, even though nothing showed up on mri's. The numb and tingly feeling on my left side has continued to get more painful. The pain is there 24/7.

I have been to 3 neurologists and recently a neuro surgeon. The only thing the MRI's have uncovered is a buldging disc. He wasn't sure that was what was causing the problem. He will see me in 6 months to see if anything has changed.

I have been treated with gabapentin and different antidepresents, none of which seem to give me much pain relief.

No one seems to know what is wrong with me or how to fix me. Is there anyone out there that has had the same symptoms?

           I'm sorry you have been going through this, and it must be frustrating not knowing what is causing these symptoms. I have no idea, but maybe one of our members may have run across this before or knows someone who has and can share information with you.

   I see that they are using one of the nerve meds on you, but are your recieving any pain meds for it as well for some relief?

Good morning kadill, welcome to the forum here. I have to say that does sound very bizarre, and even more strange that one bulging disc would cause such a horrible problem. Since these symptoms started right after a flew shot, which is basically a coctail to jump start anti-bodies in your system, my question is, if that may have triggered some ugly, auto-immune thing that may have been silently lurking in you. I'm not a doctor, and I don't know if what I suggested is even possible, but at this point, I'm sure your doctor is open to suggestions.

They can test to see if your bulging disc is causing part of your problem, they can do a diagnostic injection, that, if it alleviates the pain, then they know what the problem is, I don't think its a 100% chance that it would necessarily work, even if the disc was the problem, but it also might be worth a shot.

I'm not a doctor, these are just a few crazy ideas that popped into my head. I hope you are able to find a diagnosis and treatment for this soon. Take care and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Hi Kadill and welcome to the chronic pain forum. Wow, what a story you tell indeed. Everyone that comes here has a story to tell as to what brought them here.

You know Matt may have hit on something and it really does not sound all that far fetched either. The one thing that keeps popping into my mind, is so many drs tell the patients that a bulging disc does not cause pain. I am not saying I buy into that theory its just something the drs throws at us.

Have you considered asking one of your drs to refer you to a PM dr? If not,I think this may be something you should think about. There's different things a PM dr can do to check & see if this pain is coming from your neck or not. If it is your neck he can put together a program for you to try and get your pain level down. For sure you will need a referral to see a PM dr.

Kadill can you tell us more about your pain and numbness and tingling, where exactly is it? is it in your arms? hands? legs? your face? where exactly, and what does the pain feel like? Burning? stabbing pain? achy?  Your description is a little vague. Where part of your body did they do the MRI, and where was the bulging disk?

The pain is pretty much from the neck down to my toes. The worst pain is in my foot and hand. The pain is a real stiffness in my hand and foot.Ido have a bulging disc in the upper and lower spine. The Neuro surgeon is not sure that is what's causing my issues. He said the flu shot has caused some unusual issues with some people. I am having more tests and an MRI again in Dec.

Kadill have you ever had any of these symptoms before? and then have them go away?  Or any other weird symptoms that come and go away and then come back? Has anybody suggested doing any EMG studies?  I definitely would start keeping a log or journal  and write down anytime you experience any strange symptoms, ie numbness and tingling and pain in your limbs ie arms hands fingers, legs, feet toes, write down the time it occurred and what you were doing and what it felt like and how long it lasted. anything and everything about it. It might help the doctor determine what is going on. Anyway just a thought, I wish you well and hope this all works out for you!

This is Rajarshee. New member in the forum.

I have the same disease as yours. Complained about it some 4 yrs ago to many doctors in India. Most of them gave me different tests. Everybody there did not came up with proper answer in the end---everybody said "you have nothing, its only you are thinking"..god forbid so much neglect and only business by doctors and instituions there. I just completed my M.Sc (Economics) that time.

But here now, in Bangalore, India, doctors got hold of this disease. But cannot tell me why it happened? Right now I want to get rid of this very soon.

Between 1 month i will be undergoing open surgery in my left Kidney for PUJ obstruction. So with that operation i want to cure myself with this bad symptom very soon. I am searching internet, so that I can find a good doctor.
