Spinal Cord Stimulator for burning pain

Hi there,

Was wondering if anyone here has had a spinal cord stimulator implanted.

I have severe burning neuropathy in my legs and feet. I also suffer from thermal allodynia (temperature changes cause pain) and tactile allodynia (pain from clothing, bedsheets). The cause of my neuropathy is lyme disease. My pain levels average between 6-8. I am unable to tolerate any clothing on my legs at all.

Does anyone out there have similar symptoms and get relief from a stimulator??

I have tried many drugs for this condition including antidepressants, anticonvulsants, narcotic pain meds, topical medications, etc. While some drugs have offered relief, the side effects are unbearable. So now I am at a point where the stimulator seems like my only option.

So, if you have a spinal cord stimulator, I would love to hear of any success you have had with it. Sorry, but I would rather not get messages from people who did not get relief or any horror stories. I am looking for some encouragement as I feel very hopeless.

Welcome Joey to the CP forum and here if your asking for a opinion based on experience you have to take the good with the bad,we can't give you a honest review if you want us to fudge our answers. By asking for good ratings only your cheating yourself out of that honest review.

We have several folks here who have stims and many more who have been through trial and the weekend here can be slow but the fact you have not gotten one answer to your post searching for only good reviews speaks for itself sort of.

I will say that probably 90% of the CP forum members have neuropathy of some degree,the amount of folks here that have a stim doesn't come close to that percentage,it's the most difficult pain to treat,the majority of us have not found a one-stop magic answer,and a good deal of us have to just deal with some of the side effects of the meds or the nerve related pain and take the lesser of two evils.

I wish I could offer you more than that but the sad truth is with pain associated with nerve related issues makes the stimulator and other treatment options a gamble and you just have to figure out if it's one your willing to take the risk for.

Is the vibration to be on all the time to get relief ?

Hey there i had the same issues burning pain in my feet legs hips buttock.

I got the implant 5 years ago and it has SO MANY BENEFITS but it is not for everyone. You need to really take time to think about it and speak with your doctors at length and a counselor to make sure this is a good decision for you. it is a BIG decision and needs to be thought out. THAT BEING SAID:

I have had great success with the stem . I fell down a flight of stairs on to a marble floor in 2009 and it left me with great pain with spasms and burning shooting and constant pain in my legs. i had the stem placed and it was AMAZING for me. It took some getting use to and is hard to explain but it helps a lot. I did see a therapist through out the whole process as it is very taxing emotionally. I would recommend seeing one for the 1st year as you are getting use to the who experience.
