Hi Everyone,

I'm usually in the fibromyalgia and allergy and gerd forums, but I thought this might be a good place to ask the following:

I went to see my pain doctor this morning and he has ordered an MRI for my coccyx area due to the tailbone pain that I've had for years. If they do not find anything wrong on the MRI, my doctor wants an anethesiologist to perform a nerve block on me...

Has anyone ever had a nerve block done? Does it help? How long does it last? Were there any short term or long term side effects?

Hi Almost Medfree. There are numerous types of blocks an anesthesiologist can perform. There is never a 100% guarantee they will work. I think it depends on how much pain the individual is willing to put up with. Pain that is nonstop is so draining. I have had different blocks done over the years. Some have worked better than others. It truly is a trial & error type of thing.

Hi Everyone,

I had my MRI early yesterday morning and my pain doctor was kind enough to call me yesterday afternoon to give me the results. I have only arthritis in that area more than likely due to my old falls on my tailbone. That's a relief it's only arthritis.

Does anyone have any helpful hints on how they deal with their arthritis?

AM, glad to read the MRI came back good. Arthritis can sure be a pain when aggravated. I have used some of the pain patches such as Tiger Balm & Salon Pas. There are so many different type of analgesics available OTC, it is finding which one works the best for you. Now they make so many with Lidocaine too. Voltaren is a prescription medication used to treat arthritis, available in oral or topical form. It really helps my knees the topical form. One of the best things I have found for arthritis is getting in the pool. Hydrotherapy is widely used for arthritis. I hope you find something that gives you some relief. You will find the weather will trigger arthritis, we are like human barometers.
