I have read some studies linking chronic pain to cortisol dysfunction. The basic idea is that one time, and injury happens, and if you have dysregulated cortisol, due do adrenal fatigue or cptsd/stress, then you get a wash of cortisol, but then the anti-inflammatory wears out, and so the body decides to prevent another injury (because it thinks it doesn't have the cortisol) by creating pain so you dont use that area of the body.
