Hello everyone! Just thought I would introduce myself. After many months of reading this forum, which has been so wonderfully fantastic for someone just diagnosed with Crohn's, I thought I would join up and contribute something myself
Im an aussie girl who has been diagnosed with crohn's for nearly 5 months now, but it took almost a year of tests, tears and pain to finally get the diagnosis! As many of you have probably found, it was more of a relief than anything when I finally got the confirmation.
I have always been prone to D and C, but began feeling very sick in sept08 with irregular BM, D, unbearable stomach cramps and severe weight loss. They first thought that maybe the main issue was fructose malabsorption in the first couple of months, but even with a restricted diet, the symptoms continued, even if slightly SLIGHTLY improved. Colonoscopy and blood tests confirmed extensive inflammation, but biopsies were indeterminate. Cue a CT scan and WBC scan a couple of months later - I almost cried when the CT scan came back normal (actually, i think i did cry
) but finally I was diagnosed after the WBC scan indicated extensive active IBD. It was just so fantastic to finally have something which explained how terrible I had been feeling for over 12 months!
I am now on imuran 75mg - was supposed to be finishing up my taper of pred tomorrow, but have been feeling yucky again the last 3-4 weeks and blood tests yesterday showed an increase in my inflammation markers once more. So up I go again (yesterday was all in all a horrible day - when parking my car on the way to the doc's scratched mine and anothers car; then went to the doctor where I found out I had to increase my pred; and when i got back to the car, i had a parking fine!!!!
- things come in threes dont they
).
So i just wanted to thank everyone on here - over the last 12 months through the investigations this forum was a wealth of knowledge. I hope I can also be a help to people even though im a bit of a novice compared to some
