perianal crohns

Anybody here with perianal crohns.. fissures, abscesse..etc. the only syntoms..

my son takes purithenol 25mg a day.. vitamins, and fish oil.. his crohns is undercontrol... just the perianal area, is where the disease is... just wondering if anyone sufferes just from this area..

The rectom is the last part of the internal GI tract, from there it's the anus (anal) and I have perianal crohn's skin tags, but this differs from abcesses and fistulas (thank goodness), they're no fun either but an abcess/fistula is worse...mine are located right on the anus, the rectom is not involved with this, as they are external as the anus is.

There's some wonderful stuff out there called Calmoseptine that's great for relieving the skin irritation. It's non-prescription but you have to order it from the pharmacy usually.

Anyhow, this is one of the more humiliating aspects of my crohn's, I can deal with the bathroom trips and food restrictions, but the diaper rash from the drainage just seems like kicking me when I'm already down ... lol.

I am on the flagyl, asacol, canasa, 8-mp and cipro and none of it has seemed to faze my perianal crohn's. Fortunately, remicade cleared up the issues in that particular region in less the two days...

BTW, just a thought, you may want to check the vitamins he's taking, a lot of them have gluten and other substances that he might want to avoid. I just spent an hour the other day at a GNC trying to find just ONE multivitamin I could take (I eat gluten-free).

I have crohn's in the last 7cm of my rectum. I have skin tags and a possible fistula... It sucks and I'm sorry to hear anyone else has to suffer from it.

This is the first forum I have ever joined, so I'm not too sure of the posting etiquette in regards to what forum I should post this in, but I think this may be the one.

I have had Crohn's disease now since 1991 (dx'ed in '93 along with a bowel perforation followed by resection). Back in 2000 I had an anal abscess that quickly got to be rather painful. I had it drained by a colo-rectal surgeon in his office and sent on my way. about 4 months ago, I experienced discomfort in the form of pressure high up in my rectum that got unpleasant for 10 days, went away for a couple of weeks, then returned. The colorectal surgeon called in a levator abscess and put me on cipro and flagyl for 21 days. It seemed to clear it up but the surgeon put me on another 21 day course of cipro and flagyl. A week ago, what I think was a small (like a mosquito bite) absess appeared just outside my anus on the north side, but no discomfort. Tonight, I have noticed that it has now got much bigger and is a bit tender. But the south side of my anus feels raw and burning. My question is: should I worry? Its the weekend and I'm concerned that if I go to the ER I'll get a general surgeon to do the drainage. Can I wait until Monday to show up to the ER and get a colorectal surgeon to look at it? There are only a few colorectal surgeons here and there is quite a wait to see them at their office, but the surgeon I saw told me to go to the ER if the absess gets worse. Thanks for any suggestions.

Crohn's affecting the rectom (proctitis) should be treated with rectal meds, like cortifoam, salofalk suppositories, ect...crohn's affecting the anus can sometimes also be treated with rectal meds, it just depends on what kind of anal crohn's is going on (skin tags, fissures, fistulas or abcesses).

I have perianal disease with my crohns and have been in a great deal of pain. humira and low dose prednisone have been losing their effectiveness. I am on weekly dosings of humira as well. I am not sure what my next options are or how to deal with the pain. any natural remedies for the pain ? any ointments I can put on down there ?

smartdog...soak the area in the hottest water possible as often as you can. It draws blood to the area and promotes healing. Your abscess that broke, may actually be a fistula that broke through....just a thought. I've had numerous abscess surgeries, and a few fistulas.

I also have peri anal crohn’s and have been going through a lot this last year. I have crohn’s further up too inside my bowel but the peri-anal is smashing me at the moment – I have skin tags, fissures, a fistulas and an abscess which refuses to drain properly. I am currently on the waiting list for remicade and won’t get it for another three months.

 

My first surgery for the abscess resulted in 2 setons. Then a month later I had to have another ‘mushroom’ drain inserted because the setons weren’t draining sufficiently. Now, a month on from having the mushroom catheter inserted, I am having extreme pain again and can barely walk. Sitting is excrutiating. And I live alone, am 23 and trying to hold down a full time job.

 

All this time I have been on flagyl and amoxicillin; I don’t know how much they are helping but I have been on them for so long now!

 

Hopefully once I am on remicade it will help but until then I will be walking around with this tube poking out my butt and extreme pain and constant drainage. Such is life.

 

I haven't been here to post for about 3 years. UGH where do I begin!!! I too suffer mainly from Perianal Crohn's. My main disease has been under control for about 5 years, except of course for the booty. I have 1 fistula, but suspect multiple abcesses that converge and drain to the same location. In the TEN YEARS that I've dealt with this thing I've tried pretty much EVERYTHING. I can't have definitive surgery because it transverses the muscle (I have a horseshoe fistula...LUCKY me). I've had 10+ surgeries on my fistula including many drainages (several under anesthesia due to how deep my tract runs), I tried aloderm mesh surgery, 2 exploratories 1 which ended in a seton placement (had that for about 6 months when I just couldn't take the discomfort from it anymore so I took it out), Remicade for two years (which contributed to me getting Melanoma and didn't work anyway..but that's a whole other story), Flagyl, Flagyl Cipro combo, you name it I done tried it!!!! The only thing that works as a maintenance therapy is good old fashioned crappy annoying sitz baths.

So here I am today, I am no longer on ANY medication because they do nothing but poison my body (in my opinion and experience), and have started a gluten-free diet and a quest to heal my fistula naturally with the help of a Naturopathic doctor. I made significant progress in the first several weeks and the swelling went WAY down (even visibly so on the external opening), but then several days ago I felt it coming on, oh man did it hurt this time, my fistula abcessed (deep inside) and drained and is still draining from the same opening. I'm wondering if the nutritional healing therapies are doing what they are supposed to by cleaning out any pockets of trapped pus and mucous?

Overall I am starting to feel so much better just in general from the diet. I'm waiting on a bunch of bloodwork to come back as well as some other tests which might help advance my natural healing procedures and routine to the next step.
In the meantime, I'm going back to my surgeon next week to demand another imaging test to see what the hell is going on down there, but I am not giving up on my new natural path since I've only just begun!!

Maybe there is hope for us yet fellow fistula sufferers!!! I shall keep you posted.

Hi, Never been on a forum before so not really sure what i'm doing.

I have recently been diagnosed with Perianal Crohns and have to go back to the hospital in July so they can check to see if I also have it in my intestine. (Very nervous about this) I have been told it has nothing to do with what I eat but have been told by a friend that it would have alot to do with what I eat so I'm very confused. I have skin tags and two cracks but no Fistula's. The only medication I have been given is Pentasa 2g Sachets and Pentasa suppositries. I know it is not curable but I dont feel like I have it under control either. I have some really good days but then the next day I can be sooooo bad too. Is there anyone out there who can tell me it gets better. (Fingers crossed) cos at the moment I am feeling very depressed and feel my life has been taken away from me. I dont feel like I can lead a normal life at all. Doing a school run for example is a nightmare. ANy advice would be much appreciated.

 

I am new to the forum, diagnosed with crohn's/perianal crohn's in January...its the external symptoms that kill me!! I was reading this forum a couple of weeks ago and went and found a tube of Calmoseptine and it has been a life saver!!! I am allergic to Flagyl, which sucks since it is supposed to be the best treatment, but at least I can cope with the pain at the moment. My gastro suggested I may have to try prednisone since nothing else is clearing it...I am embarrassed to admit it, but I am quite vain and very concerned about the side effects (I know I need to grow up and take care of my health first...) Has anyone else tried prednisone to clear up the perianal symptoms? I was actually just called into my office at work because they were concerned I was "stressed out"...how do you tell your boss your "ass hurts"??
