true they operated on a gorilla yesterday who had gi problems and they diagnosed with crohns, they have the same geno type that carries cd in humans

Poor gorilla.

Mind, cats and dogs can get IBD as well. And cows too, of course. (Johne's disease.)

My friends ferret had it too...had to take prednisone too...the poor thing did not survive long after dx...

Glad to hear they didn't put him down.  We had a baby elephant at our zoo with colic and a distended colon and they put him down.

Yep, my sister-i-l's cat had IBD. He was SO skinny - always on prednisone. Finally passed away. Makes me wonder ... We have all of these theories about why the autoimmune rates are increasing so much. How many of those theories translate to animals? The "too clean" theory? The processed foods?

A friend's cat has IBD and was on steroids last time I was over at her house. The thing was nothing but skin and bone.

I'll keep everybody posted on her recovery, it was here at san diego zoo, I might go down, they have a hosp. down there, I know you can go to childrens zoo there and see the babies that need more care after birth, you can walk thru the wing, pretty neat. I doubt that they would let public into adult hosp. traumatic enough.
