So, I'm getting a seton stitch on Friday. I'm not nervous about it. I just want to know if it causes pain and makes life not as enjoyable. I'm really busy this time of year. I'm going to be moving around a lot. Could anyone share with me? Thanksss

Cutting Seton or Drainage Seton? There is a big diffrence there. The drainage on stays in to keep an area open so it does not abscess. The cutting one is left in tightened over a period of time to cut thru a fistula. Drainage ones are only uncomfortable for a brief period of time unitl you get used to them. The cutting setons would make the Marquis de Sade proud as far as torture goes! They get tightend every two weeks until they cut thru and fall out.

He didn't specify. I believe I'm getting just the drainage one. The tightened one sounds lovely..not. Does the tightening one actually heal the fistula or no?

I have a draining seton. I have had it for almost 5 years now. A week after it was placed, I was back to exercising. I didn't have to take pain pills at home, and it causes me no problems. I fold a 4x4 guaze sponge in half and stick it against my seton to catch any drainage, and just change it when I use the bathroom.

Really Chronie? That makes me feel a lot better. That's what I was worried about. I'm really active and I like to play basketball as much as possible. So you don't even really notice it?

I was just like crohniemomx2...seven years and three setons:( Even though it wasn't always pleasant I rode horses with very little pain, mostly discomfort, during that time.

One trick is to make sure that the knot stays on the outside...it can hurt a little if it twists inside. The first week is the worst, in my opinion, and just gets easier from there.

bosnianboy....i had mine in for over a month. the first week is the worst. you will get used to it being in after that...the only issue i have is that you cant wipe your ass like usual, its more of a dabbing and blotting ....and above all in that first week take SITZ BATHS...they help tons for the pain and for the cleaning...good luck

I agree with the others... drainage setons are not too bad after the first week. I initially didn't think they would continue to drain so much, but mine do still produce quite a bit of drainage, I've had them for about a month and a half now. Sitz baths are huge helpers, and a good time to do some reading!!
