Herpes and Crohn's

Have safe sex and take your anti-virals is the only advice I can think of.  This would apply even if he didn't have a suppressed immune system.  I hope that he already knows about the herpes, so you being together has got to be important to him.  I can't say I know everything about Humira and viral infections, having not had the joy of having to take biologics yet, but just like anyone else, the worst that would happen is that he catches it, perhaps has some more outbreaks than a person with a typical immune system, and he'll have to start on anti-virals as well.

The doctor would have not recommended anything that had potential to cause illness. 

Perhaps some alternative sexual methods could be experimented with during his treatment?

Best of luck!  It sounds like a potentially scary situation... but if you let this little thing take the joy out of your relationship it won't help either of you.  He needs your support and strength, not more stress and anxiety.

yes- be VERY careful!!!! i'm on prednisone, humira and was taking azathioprine also (i stoppd that one bc i kept getting sick)...but my 6 yr old daughter picked up moloscum (sp?) from school or the pool or something...VERY contageous! her pediatrician said it was imperative that i be very careful- we have to spray the toilets with bleach, she lays on a blanket on our bed, constantly wash hands etc...so far so good and the molosum are almost gone...side note- didn't realize how common this is with kids- the dermatologist said he sees it every day with kids- i guess its embarrasing so its not talked about much but its everywhere! it can take 6 months to 3 years to go away. --

I've been a carrier of cold sores since probably about '95 when I married my ex. I knew full well what I was doing when I kissed him despite the sore. However, I never, ever had a sore myself until I was on a double dose of Remicade a few years back. I still rarely get them, despite a normal dose of Cimzia (Humira or a single dose of Remicade) in the past. I did take anti-virals while in my last serious relationship (haven't dated in a while thanks to Crohn's fun) and, while on the anti-virals, never had a hint of a cold sore.

I think he is more susceptible, but if he's willing to take the risk, he's willing to take the risk. I agree with taking your anti-virals, and letting him decide what he's comfortable. It doesn't hurt to run it by a doctor, even a primary doc. Herpes is very common. Many people who carry it don't even know they have it. As I said, I know when I was exposed (with full acceptance) and did not break out until taking double dose of Remicade. Don't stress too much, is my thought, but a doc can tell him the worse case scenario.
