Sleepless since Prednisone

I had a massive Crohn's flare last year and had to go on Prednisone. I finally recovered and am now in remission; however... Since being off of the Prednisone, I have horrible sleeping issues. I tried over the counter sleep medication, but soon that became ineffective. I've been taking a shot of Nyquil every night in order to fall asleep. I talked with a friend who also had to take Prednisone last year, and she happens to have the same problem with sleep.

Are sleep issues common after getting off of Prednisone?

possibly as many of us have sleep issues both related to meds or coming off them. Some nights I don't sleep at all which makes it a very long day at work the next day :(

I do take triazolam if I am desperate but most nights relaxation imaging gets me to sleep - you know the lying on a warm beach in fiji, cocktail in my hand, warm sun, blue water ahhhh.

My problem is actually staying asleep!

Most nights I give up about 3 am get up.

Every few months I crash badly and sleep a couple of days - seems to be my new post steroid pattern and it doesn't help my city has been rocked by ongoing earthquakes for the past year which has made us all a bit twitchy ;P

a friend of mine swears tart cherry juice helps her but my tummy can't tolerate it.

Since you are off the Pred now, maybe you could try something like Valerian. Its natural and you can buy it at your local health food store.

I take 2 caps nightly and it helps me to relax and fall asleep. Hope that helps a little. Hugs!

Oh my, I had horrible insomnia when I was ON even small doses of prednisone. Maybe when it gets out of your system you'll sleep better??? My sleep returned to normal just a day or two off it.
