Four years of health and now I'm back

hello everyone. I have been away from you all for nearly four years. Six years ago, I was diagnosed with crohn's by one GI, but another was never sure. I went through remicade, humira, all the drugs and two surgeries. Finally I gave up gluten and have been fine ever since--until now. Whatever it is has returned: bloating, pain, odd bowel habits. This is so disappointing!

I have been taking NSAIDS for arthritis for about six months, so the GI and are hopeful it is an ulcer (funny thing to hope for!) so I am on a couple ulcer meds for a month to see it that helps. If not, I suppose it will be back to test-land for me.

Sorry you're back because you're feeling unwell, though. Hopefully it's just an ulcer as well, but if it is CD, then you are probably aware that NSAIDS are a well-known aggravator.
Yes, it strange to hope for an ulcer, but better to have that than a CD flare.

Just to clarify—did you have two resections? If so, that should have pretty much determined if you have CD.

That's disappointing, YogaProf. It was wonderful to think that you'd healed yourself and were out enjoying a healthier life.

As the others have said, I hope it's "just" an ulcer and can be easily treated.

Anyway, it is nice to see you back here, even if it is under these circumstances.

Sorry that your IBD has returned. Most of us are not aware of the many people like you who control their symptoms with diet and lifestyle changes, without drugs, because they no longer feel the need to participate in the forum.

NSAIDS are also a powerful trigger of symptoms so I am hopeful that avoiding both NSAIDS and gluten will once again bring you to remission. Check out DGL licorice, it has helped to relieve the stomach pain that one of my many symptoms of IBD. Chewing a couple of capsules 20-30 minutes before meals and before bedtime really works. Don't just take my word for it, there is much info out there on the internet about DGL's effectiveness for ulcers.

BTW NSAIDS are not the only way to control arthritis pain. Many of us find vitamin D, fish oil, and SAMe to also be effective. Perform a search on these threads for more information.

hi Nanners! uh, no, still using the NSAIDS. I am taking Bentyl and Prilosec for the stomach, but I honestly can't do my life without the NSAIDS. I am taking fish oil and other supplements for my spine, but have "two huge bulging disks" according to spine doc and nothing is helping. GI said keep taking them....who knows!
