Anyone ever take NSAIDs?

Hello All,

In October I had 2 abdominal surgeries (pelvic adhesions, endometriosis and bilateral ovarian wedge resection) and I just had a wisdom tooth extracted on Tuesday. My abdominal recovery is going okay but the tooth recovery has really set me back! I can hardly open my mouth, have swelling into my neck so I can't turn my head, and have tons of pain that is radiating into my ear now. I called the on-call orthodontist and he states he doesn't think it's infected (which I am concerned about due to being on Imuran and Humira) it's probably still normal post op pain.

Does anyone here ever take NSAIDs? I am sooo tempted! I am taking what is left of my Dilaudid and Tylenol but it is not cutting it. I need some anti-inflammatory action here!!! What do you all think?

I do have a history of strictures...

NSAIDs might cause bleeding so it is not recommended. My son jus thad a horribletime with is wisdom tooth surgery. It turned out they left bone fragments in there and it was very painful. They needed to re-open it and do another surgery.. Don't ignore your symptoms and have the orthodontist or whoever did the surgery to re-check it tomorrow. Sorry you are having such a rough time!

straight up... you might not want to take them. I used to sneak them in when I would have really bad knee pain (because it was all swollen) and tylenol was not cutting it and I had the bleeding thing happen. I only took like 2 advils 2x a day for a couple of weeks. It didn't happen the minute I took them but about a month after and I was too ashamed to tell my GI because he was surprised that it happened . =/

I have to admit to taking them sometimes too, I know I shouldn't, but it helps with headaches where as
tylenol doesn't touch them....

Yup, when the joint pain gets so bad that I can't sleep, I will take an Aleve. Nothing on a regular basis though. It is so not good for us. And having just had surgery with the risk of bleeding, I just don't know. I would for sure get in to see the doctor first thing in the morning.

I'm like Zanne - I'll take a single Aleve if my headache or joint pain is bad enough. But I won't take a 2nd dose. It's something you can consider trying. Use ice packs on your face and neck too.

I take ibuprofen all the time. Nothing else will work for the pain I have and so far I've been fortunate not to have any problems.

I have major problems with NSAIDS and would not risk it.
If you are having that much pain and swelling, you need to get seen by your orthodontist asap. The drugs put you more at risk and unfortunately, some orthodontists are not very familiar with Humira and other biologics so please get checked and if he does not take you seriously, get a second opinion!

I used to take it all the time for headaches (mostly aspirin). Then I bled out really bad. So they are off limits now. Haven't had a single NSAID since 2006. I won't risk it, not worth it no matter how much pain I'm in.

Thanks everyone for your input!

I will be seeing the doc tomorrow at the first available appointment. I have decided to up my Dilaudid dose and just suck it up. I'll take some Benadryl to help me sleep through the pain, I usually get a bit itchy with the narcotics anyway.
