Roni's post has brought up something that I had been thinking about
off and on about
for a while. Does anyone ever watch TLC's What Not To Wear? They basically take some one who doesn't dress well and update their wardrobe, hair and makeup. In the process they usually come out with a renewed sense of self esteem. Oh and the show gives them $5000 to spend on the clothes and takes them to NY for the week. I have seen a lot of the shows and I have NEVER seen them do a show with anyone who has any type of a disability. (unless you count the annual Wear Red campaign where the candidate has to have something that covers her chest scar) Yesterday I went to their website to check out the nomination process and you do have to actually nominate ONE particular person and have help with doing secret footage and stuff, not stuff we could ever pull off in the cyber world. However, I think we could send a bunch of emails asking them to do a special on how to dress for disabilities. I have never seen anyone in a wheelchair, or with leg braces, or anyone like us who has any type of a special need in their clothing choices. It would be an interesting show to see how they could work the latest fashion trends into our needs. If several of us emailed them, it might not be enough to get them to do a show on disabilities, but it might be enough for them to actually pick a disabled candidate at some point in the future. I think we should certainly us Healingwell as a place to pull a candidate from and then maybe someone will get a whole new wardrobe out of it, and a lifetime experience. Any one want to join me?

Great idea. I say we nominate you, Zanne. You are an experienced traveller and would represent us well.

I think we should nominate you, Zanne. You can mention us on the show and say you're going to share their ideas with us.

Oh No, I have 2 daughters that keep me pretty well updated on the trends and I am no longer working so I don't need to go out if I am having a really bad day, I just stay in my jammies. I just think its time to have some representation of the disabled and how to accommodate our special needs. We seem to have these threads come up every few months or so, and if we have these issues then I can only imagine that other people do to. I am thinking people who need to make allowances for wheelchair access, special monitors, braces, .......
