Hello everyone, yet another question.

I know I need to see a GYN but I was just wandering if anyone has had a similar situation and could share what happened to them. I am 22 years old and have had Crohns since I was 12. I started menstration at about 11 years old but as soon as I got sick with Crohns about 9 months later, I stopped having them for a while and then they started back irregularly after a few years. This went on for about 2 years of them being irregular. Then when I was in highschool they stopped completely. I have not been flaring this whole time, but even when I am in complete remission they do not start back again. I have only been to a GYN once when I was in high school and I am a virgin(and will be until I am married) so until now I haven't seen the need to go to one. I know I need to see one but I was wandering if there are others who have had the same thing happen.

I would be devistated if I couldnt have children, and I know I need to see a GYN to figure out what is happening but just looking for some encouragement I guess and truth. If anyone has had this happen or has some advice I would be very appreciative! =)

I am a guy so I can't offer to much here. From what I do know, I don't think Crohn's can cause you not to have a period for such a long time. I would recommend seeing a gyn. Also, you could have PCOS which would cause menstral problems. My wife has that and when she isn't on the pill to regulate her, she can go a couple of months without a period.

If your body fat percentage is below 20 then you will not menstruate. If your hormonal cycle is skewed you may not menstruate either. It is an issue that can be resolved by your gynecologist and perhaps a reproductive endocrinologist.

Many young women have irregular menstrual cycles, so it is perhaps not connected to your IBD. But if your weight is below normal then your OB/Gyn is going to tell you first to gain weight.

This happened to me with this flare...I asked my GI when I would have it back again and he said "Your sick. Your body is telling you that you aren't healthy enough to have a baby and keep yourself alive too. Funny how nature cares." He's a smart butt & probably an Atheist ;)

Anyways, he finally put me on birth control(low dose) and I saw a gyno. This is the only way I've been able to have mine. Like you, I'm waiting till marriage and I got a few yeas to go so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I also don't eat much(even though my flare has gotten better from 6 months ago). That & losing a lot of weight really fast will cause you not to mensturate.

When I was first diagnosed I stopped having periods I was 83 pounds. My GI said their is now way you are ovulating. Well as he's telling me this I was pregnant. Here I am almost 13 years ago and my daughter will be 12 on the 4th.

I am on the pill and have been sicne I was 21. Prior to that I was a very heavy bleeder. I had to ahve 4 suergeries for my CD back in 07/08 and since then ahve been very irregular skip every other month etc. More recently I have been on the pill nonstop to try and help my menstrual migraines. prior to this though I was irregular even at the same weight I was back in HS pre pill but still post Dx (I was diagnosed at age 8, started my menses about age 12 or 13 when I finally hit 75 lbs) I have been told I look ok in there from my gyn etc then again I am 32 and have not tried to have children of my own yet I hope to though in a couple of yrs.

Hi there,

When I was in high school I used to have irregular periods at time and also have went months without having them even though I wasn't flaring .
The reason was that I was underweight. It was the only reason I wasn't menstruating.
