Is the tear on the labia? Giving birth to a baby causes tears that are not at all fistulas (not that you have given birth, but if this is what they are comparing it to . . .). I suffered a 4th degree tear after giving birth. Basically I was just given pain meds and did sitz baths for a few weeks until it healed. Does it hurt to urinate? I also used a spray bottle while urinating to decreasing the stinging. I think a little petroleum jelly on the outside can be helpful and protective as well. The same treatments can be helpful for anal fissures. I highly recommend the spray bottle when pooping too!! Keep the area clean and with as little irritation as possible.
Also, an MRI can miss some things - so if you still have pain or fistula symptoms in a few weeks, I would check back in with your DR. I think CT scans are a little clearer - but require exposure to radiation, so should be used sparingly. Good luck!
