Surgery: Ileocolic Resection

Hi everyone

I am home from hospital four days after having an Ileocolic Resection.

I have yet to have a bowel movement. I am passing plenty of "wind" and I'm told that this is a good sign, however, I am beginning to get concerned about no bowel motions.

Can anyone give me their opinions, or experiences? Is this normal after this kind of surgery and how much longer should I wait until I ring my doctor?

Don't worry, sometimes it takes a week before you have a BM after surgery. Remember, they completely cleaned out your intestines prior to surgery, so before you have a BM again, you have to fill them back up again. If you are not eating a lot of food, this could take a few days. Don't worry, you will have a BM soon enough.

Took me at least a week after all 3 of my resections

I had that same surgery 2 months ago. They wouldn't let me leave the hospital until I had at least a small movement. I was in for 11 days, and I think I had my first tiny little movement on day 7 or 8. It takes a while for your insides to wake up from surgery and if you were on TPN you probably haven't been putting anything in for it to turn into stool.

Thanks for the replies guys. I had my first BM yesterday and a couple since, so I am relieved. The pain is subsiding as well. All good so far.
