Hi. I've had crohns for 25 years now. (I'm 40). about a week ago I noticed a hard lump under my skin in my butt an inch or two from my anus (gotta love that word). It hurts. It hurts wires when I sit. I thought maybe it was from riding my bike a lot. I ride 50 miles last sat. Or maybe from straining when I poop. I've been feeling pretty good - solid poops which hurt a bit. I went to my primary doc but he was out. I saw another doc who looked at it and in 2 seconds said "oh that's a lipase tumor. Really nothing to worry about unless it gets in your way or gets bigger". But I got home and looked up lipase tumor and it said they are soft (like adipose tissue) and don't hurt. This is hard and hurts. I need to go see my gi and real doc but I'm terrified. For the first time I feel really mortal. IM on a lot of pain killers for my gut and this thing still hurts really bad. Anyone ever had anything like this? I don't know. Guess I'm just venting. Have a good night.

Honestly, I'd go to the ER - this sounds like an abscess. Do you have a fever?

Hey mtgman...so sorry you had this rock your world. Please don't let the fear keep you from getting this looked at. I really think you need your GI over your primary. I have hard lumps on my tushy a lot over the last two years. They feel like a really hard pimple and shoot pain when pressed. I am pretty sure they are small abcesses but they seem to go away within a few days so bad me has avoided getting them looked at (and try to time that one with a visit).

I think you should talk to your GI about possible abcess. Like sci said...if you are running a fever now, go to ER and get it looked at if you can not get in to GI asap.

It could be a boil or, hopefully not, a fistula that hasn't broken through. Either way, it needs to be addressed if you're still having pain or if it becomes hot, red, or has area swelling because you would probably need antibiotics. That kind of biking would have irritated whatever it is; that's a lot of compression and rubbing. (I used to bike a lot)

I have family members that have had to deal with boils, which are manageable. Usually they show up when they've been having other health issues. Crohn's would definitely fall into that category.

I agree that these benign fatty tumors, some doctors used to call them fat cells so as not to scare patients since they're not cancerous, don't usually hurt; my dad had several which we initially worried were boils. I do remember that his were rather hard though. I have a couple that are as you said somewhat soft and have been with me for decades.

go to the ER..... and ask to see the colo rectal doc that is there--if one is there.....or if you can get an appt with one at a docs office fast...

or wait and see the GI doc..or have one in the ER check you , and hand you over to one...

the Colo rectal doc --- you ll have better success with.

I'm with the others who think it could be a boil/abcess. I would get in to your GI or go to the ER because they can get a good look and decide what to do for you. You might need antibiotics or even to have it lanced and drained. No need for you to suffer it through without help. Hope you can be seen soon!

Another vote for the possibility that it's an abscess. Also agree that you should seek treatment soon. Not only because of the pain, but because you don't want it to get worse.

Thanks everyone. Freaking gi won't see me til June 12! Unreal. Told the lady on phone it's not a normal follow up! After being on hold 3 times back and forth she finally got me an appt with pa on the 6th!!! I'm so mad right now. This thinks feels like its getting bigger and hurts. I don't want to go to the er but I might have to.
