What are my options while I have ongoing infections?

I keep having to go to the hospital for abscesses after my bowel resection. I may keep getting fistulas, but the doctors don't say anything definitive. One day they want me to go on Humira, the next they say it's too dangerous. I'm just on Asacol and a small dose of prednisone, which I have been trying to come off of. What the hell am I supposed to do? These doctors aren't doing anything! I go to the hospital, they drain the abscess, put me on IV antibiotics for a week and send me home. This keeps going on and on. Can I take another darn drug already, because obviously this isn't working!? I know immunomodulators and biologics put me at risk, but clearly I am not getting better like this. I want another doctor whenever I go to the hospital, but I don't know if they will give me one. He's my surgeon; I need a gastroenterologist.

It would seem that you need an appropriate medication badly. I don't understand what you mean about being put at risk if you take Humira?

Remicade seems to have the best track record at treating abscesses and fistulas.

I also think your next option might be to get a new GI.

Don't you have a Gi following you at all? That doesn't sound right

Those medications suppress the immune system, which could cause the infection to go out of control. I do not have a GI yet that has seen me outside of the hospital since February, and he is not on my insurance, so he says he can't prescribe Humira. The doctors in the hospital haven't bothered to prescribe anything.

It's imperative at this point to get a GI that know exactly what he's doing.

You will need to get the infection cleared up, and then follow it up with either Remicade or Humira. I would recommend Remicade first as it has a proven track record with healing fistulas.

I don't know how the insurance issues work, but you must get some help and get this straightened out.

Hi I too agree that you need to get a GI I suffered with abscesses and a fistula' was given remi but only managed to have 2 infusions and got a reaction on 2nd dose which was a shame as the small fistula started to disappear . Went on to humira and just kept getting infections every month and ended up with more fistula's than I started with so had to come off that too
