I'm not a doctor...just a Crohnnie, but I think if they told you to stop, then you should until your GI can take blood work and make sure that you are not reacting to it. I had to stop 6MP (similar to the azathioprine) because I quickly developed elevated liver enzymes and had to discontinue it. Pancreatitis is also a risk. Your GI may have you try it again if your lab work looks ok but wait and let the doc decide. There are side effects like nausea that get better with time, and then there are dangerous side effects. And you are not out of options....there are more meds left to try including the biologics, methotrexate, LDN, etc. I know it's very frustrating, but try to hang in there until you can talk with your doc on Monday. Also, I'm in menopause now, but my periods always made my GI symptoms worse...that's fairly common!
