I'm all about diet, that said, I also had over 2 decades of flaring with no remissions ever because I was either allergic or non-responsive to oral meds (pred only helped me a handful of times over the last 2 decades of being sick) then August of 2013 I developed a rectovaginal fistula likely from decades of basically being untreated with meds (I used diet and naturals which barely helped but did help some) yet I still got worse, by the time I was able to see my GI about my fistula and had a C-scope he told me I needed to get on biologics and if it didn't work for me then I'd be facing surgery....
Basically meds are a necessary evil as diet alone will likely not help your disease...I also had more formed stools over the many years of being sick compared to having D so this also made me think I was slowly improving but my crohn's showed me different, instead it simmered and is likely the reason I developed the fistula and had severely inflamed rectum and colon (I have crohn's colitis, CD affecting mainly the colon, on and off in the rectum)...I just don't want you to fall into a false hope that diet alone is going to make you better because more than likely it won't, but I do encourage you to eat as clean as possible (that may be what saved me from surgery over my many many brutal years with this disease)
I'm in clinical remission now finally but I'm also taking Humira shots once a week, not once every 2 weeks like the standard RX is for it (and feel that the fistula is also healed up, getting an MRI soon to confirm) but I'm now having to try and deal with severe IBS-alternating C/D likely a result of my guts being inflamed for so many decades.
Just my 2 cents.
