Should I be concerned that my:

ALT (Sgpt) is high;




Test

Low

Normal

High

Reference Range

Units

protein, total, serum 7.3 6.0-8.5 g/dL
albumin, serum 4.3 3.5-5.5 g/dL
bilirubin, total 0.4 0.0-1.2 mg/dL
bilirubin, direct 0.08 0.00-0.40 mg/dL
alkaline phosphatase, s 56 39-117 IU/L
ast (sgot) 29 0-40 IU/L
alt (sgpt) 61 0-44 IU/L

Second time and it keeps going higher. I mentioned it to my dr. last time I saw him and he said we will keep an eye on it. also what does it even mean.

you should probably get an MRCP to look at your bile ducts to make sure you don't have the beginning stages of primary sclerosing cholangitis (more common in ulcerative colitis but also associated with Crohn's). You would expect to see an elevation in alk phos with this condition as opposed to only an ALT elevation, but I would still get one.

Is an elevated ALT SGPT be caused from either 6mp or Entyvio. Cause I looked back on blood work and it seemed highest when I was on Remicade. Thanks for the replies.

If my memory serves me well tonight, don't they meaning DR. usually test for Hepatitis, before starting biologics. Does, either 6mp, remicade, humira, or entyvio cause elevated levels in the liver.

6mp can absolutely make those numbers go up. It's one of the reasons why we even have blood tests, to see how our liver is handling the medication. Imuran made my ALT count go above 800. I had a very inflamed liver, and it also gave me pancreatitis. So honestly I don't really think your number is all that high. I think it's good your doctor is keeping an eye on it though. Lots of things can make number elevate, including taking tylenol. I wouldn't go and do anything drastic like an MRCP or worry about sclerosing cholangitis just yet. I'd just continue to let your doctor watch it.

I had to discontinue 6MP due elevated liver enzymes. I'm sorry, but I don't recall the actual lab values. I don't think it happens as often with the biologics

It was insane. I never knew how high it was until the hospital here put all of our test records online. So I can look back at the last several years. I was so shocked to see how high that was, I'm surprised I wasn't hospitalized longer!

Elevated liver enzymes can happen from a number of medications, including imuran, 6mp, remicade, humira, tylenol, alcohol, etc.

Your liver enzyme levels are just barely high. I wouldn't worry about it much. Your doctor will probably just monitor those levels with regular blood work.

My liver enzymes once jumped up to the 600s when I was in a flare that put me in the hospital. A week later I was feeling better, and they were right back in the normal range.
