If it's only in the small bowel and mild, then consider Pentasa....same medication as Delzicol, but it releases in the small bowel instead of the colon. My disease was only in my ileum and after 7 yrs of Pentasa, I ended out with a bowel obstruction and needed surgery....so it didn't help me for whatever that information is worth. The newest research doesn't really support using the mesalamines for Crohn's....it doesn't really perform better than placebo. I'm currently on no medication at all for just that reason. My surgery put me in remission and we are monitoring for disease re-occurence, but I'm on nothing in the meantime. The U of Chicago specialist felt nothing at all was preferable to Pentasa.
