My GI prescribed these for my rectal pain and I've used them a few nights. I don't want to get my hopes up too much but it seems like they may have helped a little.. Do they work more and more over time or am I getting the full effect each time I use them?

I think they were helpful when I used them, though I think the enemas worked better for me. Less convenient though. The full effect should come over a period of time, maybe a couple of weeks or more, just off the top of my head. Not everyone responds to mesalamine products, but I did. It was no cure, but it did help.

I now take sulfasalazine, which breaks down into mesalamine.

Give it 2-3 weeks. Usually pain indicates inflammation so it can take a bit to get rectal inflammation under control.

Ok thanks! That's good to know. Also, how many did you do per day? I am doing 1x per night. I have severe pain so I was thinking maybe 2x per day would work better..

I'm sorry, I can't recall how often I did them now. It's been a really long time since I used them. Hopefully someone else will speak up.
