(No Subject)

I was recently diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia with a hemoglobin of 9.1. Totally freaked me out, as I had no symptoms and no past history. Now I am imagining all sorts of things like leukemia and multiple myeloma (which my father died of) and experiencing major panic attacks. Will have colonoscopy and endoscopy next week, but I may have a heart attack or stroke before that. I take metformin for my diabetes and have read that that can cause IDA. Any encouraging thoughts?

I'm so sorry you are going through this! What did your doctor suggest?
My iron level was 13. Not sure what my hemoglobin level was.. They wanted me to take tons of over the counter iron, but I know it's not always fully absorbable and I couldn't risk the constipation side effects. Then My GI suggested an iron infusion. I am sensitive to so many things so I didn't want to go that route.. My chiropractor told me about a food based iron supplement called Ferrofood by Stardard Process. I take 6 per day and my level went up to 27 in about a month! It's still low, but better.. It's pretty pricey but I've had no side effects whatsoever. Totally worth it for me.
