VSL #3 probiotic - anyone?

My son has had Crohn's since July 2015 and had a horrible first year. Recurring C- Diff, hospitalization for an obstruction (which resulted in such violent vomiting he ripped a hole in his esophagus which resulted in massive antibiotics which caused his C- Diff to worsen..), a illeo cecal resection surgery, very low hemoglobin AND ongoing abdominal pain. Today he had his six month post operation appointment with his GI and this was the result:

Stay on remicade BUT change Imurun (due to cancer risk for young adult males) to Methotrexate
Take Folic Acid supplement due to Methotrexate causing anemia
Questran for bile absorption
Change Florastor to VSL #3 probiotic
Have colonoscopy in one month

Has anyone used VSL 3# probiotic and if yes, did it help? He is a bit skeptical of ANY probiotic but seemed to feel it does not "hurt." This forum has given me so many good insights that I like to bounce ideas here! Thanks for any feedback!

VSL #3 is a pretty good probiotic. The only reason I switched from it to Florastor was because it is a live culture probiotic and had to be kept refrigerated. I just kept forgetting to take it!! Florastor I just stick in my pill box with my other pills. I got mine at Walgreens - I just asked the pharmacist and they kept it in the fridge in the back. Sometimes they had to order it in for me. Oh, and just as an FYI, if you get the powder (to mix in drink) instead of the pill, check the flavor! My first time they gave me lemon flavored. I figured it was flavorless so I put it in a glass of milk - ewwww!!

VS 3 Made me so sick. But if it works for him, that's great! Anyone with Crohn's really should take some probiotic. I've found it's the only supplement I noticed made a difference, it just took a couple months. I use Bio-Kult. It's also cheaper as VS 3 is super expensive.
