Fistulectomy and 3-stage seton stitch

I was sent here to tell my story and get some feedback

I am a 22 year old male 5'11 190lbs white

6 months ago I present with groin pain and go to the er. By weeks end I have an incision and drainage performed on what was presented as an abscess on the left side of my scotum

3 months later it wasn't healing so it is performed again under anesthesia.

3 more months go by and now I am referred to a general surgeon who tells me they are going to go a little deeper and get it all out. After the procedure I wind up staying until the next day.

I had no clue what had been done but the doctors talked about packing a wound and no stitches I was on morphine evey 4 hours. I was told told I was going home. I protested saying I can't even walk what am I suppose to do. They keep me in the hospital for a total of 5 days. During this time they adjusted my pain meds to .5 IV morphine q3 with a 5mg percocet for breakthrough pain. When I was discharged it was 5mg percocet every 6 hours I spoke up I don't think the doctors understood the pain I was in - they change it to 1-2 tabs every 4 hours as needed but only a 3 day supply.

Today my mother calls my doctors office and requests a refill. My dose is change to 1 tab 5mg percocet every 6 hours. I feel like an addict having to make these posts but I am in so much ****ing pain and the doctors make it seem like I should be just dandy.

Honestly the 2 tablets every 4 hours worked for about 3 and a half then it would start hurting. Mind you all I do is lay down and try to walk (occasionally with a walker) while the medicine is working. I hope to god that since I just had my first bowel movement in 8 days since the surgery that I will be fine on the new dosage but I am skeptical. Has anyone else has this surgery or something similiar what were your post op meds and how long till you were feeling better?

My next appointment is next thursday so maybe I will get answers but if the pain is too much I am going to be one unhappy camper and will probably have to buy pills off the street just to get by I really don't know what else to do this is so painful

I'm so very sorry you are going through this. It's just unacceptable how they treat people now with REAL pain. They are so afraid of addiction that they don't care if we sit and wither away from severe pain.

I did have a fistulotomy years ago. However I did not have a seton. I have heard that those make managing the pain harder. I was in severe pain from my surgery probably for a good 3 days after. Then it was painful when I used the bathroom (mine was a rectal fistula), I can remember crying in the shower afterwards since you can't wipe. I remember how it hurt during all those sitz baths. I can also remember the first thing I asked after I woke up was if they put in a seton, because nothing I heard was good about them.

It took a solid year for my wound to heal, however after the first week or so I was no longer in any pain. It was more just a nuisance in the slow healing. I really hope things get better for you. I wish I had some answers. I would probably keep pressing that doctor for more help, they should be doing more for you.
