Are there any restrictions regarding climbing stairs when recovering from a small bowel resection?

I may be having a small bowel resection. I don't know if it will be laproscopic or open. Does anyone know if there are restrictions regarding climbing stairs while recovering from surgery. I live in a two level house and the bathroom is upstairs.

I really don't see there being a problem climbing stairs as long as you are careful or if the dr specifically says no stairs. This is something to ask your dr. Not everyone lives in a one story house so I would think you would be fine.

When will you find out if you are having surgery? Is this something your dr has been discussing with you. I had an open small bowel resection & did ok. You should do fine. Take care.

I am embarrassed to say that I have been putting off surgery for years. My doctor just retired and the new doctor said that I will ultimately obstruct without it. Also I am steroid dependent for about 10 years now and would love to get off prednisone. I only take 6 mgs a day and still have all the bad side effects. Am now waiting for my appointment with another GI doctor because the GI doctor I saw to replace my old one told me he no longer treats patients with crohns.

V, don't be embarrassed because you held off on surgery. Things happen for whatever reason. I am a firm believer that we have to have our heads on straight when it comes to having surgery on any kind, unless it is an emergency type of situation. Yes, you have been on pred far too long & will most likely have some permanent issues as a result. Why were you never tried on any other meds besides pred? To treat a patient that long with pred is old school care, too many better meds available without the side effects. I hope you don't have a long wait to see a new gi.

My appointment with the new GI is June 18th. It was a six week wait when I made it. I had to wait for a month to see the doctor that turned out not to treat crohns. I feel like I've been waiting forever. It's a little scary because my original doctor is now retired and it feels like I have no one to follow me until June 18th.

Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover most biologics or Endocort. It only pays half the cost on the few biologics it covers. I'm grateful it covers some of the cost but because they are so expenaive they are unaffordable. My copay for Stellara would be $7500 every two months. I did get into a assisted drug program for humira but unfortunately couldn't tolerate it.🙄

V, I would check on the sites of the other meds that your insurance will approve besides what you listed. That way when you see the new gi you will have a list handy. The prices are ridiculous I know. If you get in need of a dr before June I would go to ER. Also check out GoodRx.com, it is a website that you can print coupons for discounts with or without insurance, it is a free service. I use it all the time & it saves me money.

In answer to your question about the stairs.. you will stay in the hospital a few days and they will have you up and walking the halls as soon as possible. You can ask your doctor about your specific case, but I imagine you should be able to walk up the stairs by the time you are discharged. Good luck with sorting out the new doctor and getting affordable medications. I have been in remission since surgery in 2014, so surgery isn't always a bad option!
