Are the BMs solid? Liquid stools could be overflow diarrhoea making their way past impacted stool in the colon.
You mentioned UC. Is there any doubt about your diagnosis between Crohn's and UC? 'Cos Crohn's typically tends to affect the right side of the colon worse than the left side and vice versa with UC. But there are always exceptions to every rule.
Could consider trying enemas in the meantime. They're not fun, but they do reach the left side of the colon very effectively. Mesalazine is useless for most types of Crohn's; steroid enemas may be better.
