Infusions and covid vaccine?

For those that have opted for the vaccine, and are currently on an anti-TNF, was there a recommendation as to what point between infusions would be best for getting the vaccine?

That's a good question - I was just talking about this last night with somebody, because my brother with UC, who is on Remicade, got the first vaccine last week on the same visit as he got his Remicade infusion!

I haven't seen anything specific for IBD patients, but there are some recommendations out from the Rheumatology organizations, and they say there is no issue with timing of vaccines and Remicade infusions, ie, it doesn't matter when you get the vaccine compared to your Remicade infusions.

Got my first dose recently only two days after my infusion. Doesn’t seem to be an issue though some suggest if you have the option give it a little space so your immune system will be able to mount a proper response but there is no scientific study on this

Our GP has recommended 2 weeks after an infusion. As @labradorite stated, there's no scientific answer for this. Hopefully no issues with it. She's booked in and getting the Pfizer vaccine. I've had the first dose of Moderna a couple of weeks ago. No issues at all.

Only other potential issue is, here in Canada, our Prime Minister, (complete idiot on all fronts), has gapped the first to second doses to 4 months apart due to supply issues. No scientific studies on this either. There could be big problems with this down the road.

I was (somewhat aware of the partial effectiveness of one dose. The issue seems to be how long that protection lasts. There some speculation out there that states that the reason for the 3-4 weeks gapping was to optimize the anti-bodies. This might be messed with going to 4 months.

@73 - It was not Trudeau that increase the injections to 4 months. That was Health Canada. (Hope you didn't take CERB after that commentsmile The reason being is that it was thought it better not to save vaccines (since we essential have none) for the 2nd dose and get as many people some form of protection. Incidentally, health Canada just changed the guidelines back to 28 days for transplant and immune compromised people since we are less likely to be protected after the 1st dose. If you want to be mad at someone for the lack of rollout turn to Doug Ford who currently has 400, 000 sitting in freezers and is practicing eugenics but eliminating the disabled. That said, JT is also guilty of criminal negligence when it comes to the disabled.

If you are interested in learning more, hearing about the lawsuits, becoming an advocate for those on ODSP/CPPD pls contact me. We are trying to help someone insulate his van where he lives (in winter!) because ODSP is $600/mth. That's one sad example. There's a reason 80% of covid deaths are the disabled. We need more disabled people demanding our Charter and UNCRDP rights enforced.

As to your original question - I was told to wait at least 2 weeks post Stelara ; but my GI is consulting with my team given who complicated I am. Coincidentally I was offered the pfizer vax today when I took a family member for theres - but had to turn it down given I had Stelara 2 days ago.

Certainly not interested in getting into politcal debates on a support forum. There's other discussion boards more suitable for that sort of thing.

As for you're reference to Health Canada. They are one and the same. Health Canada is a federal agency currently under the Trudeau government.

I would never want to see anyone disabled struggling to survive in this Country. All for more support to those that deserve it.

@73 -no debate necessary. Almost 1/2 mil vaccines unused under Ford's watch. If HC is Trudeau then he's done the right thing by amending vaccine protocol. Give praise when it's due. As far as the #disabled; well we are suffering. There are 6.2 million disabled Canadians and most live in "deep" poverty. 40-60% below poverty. Go Fund Me's to buy winter boots, no internet, no hygiene products - the food banks should not be the grocery store of the disabled. Eugenics is real in Canada.
