I wound up in the ER last month with lower left quadrant pain. They did a CT scan and said it was mild diverticulitis. This wasn't too surprising since I'm scopes have shown diverticulosis for years. They sent me home with antibiotics - 7 days of flagyl and cipro. That seems to help and less than a week after I finished the antibiotics, the pain returned. I contacted my GI and she repeated the antibiotics for 10 days. Again, everything seemed better. I finished the course last Thursday and last night started feeling that same lower left quadrant pain. It's a bit worse today. I got ahold of the PA at the GI's office and they want to repeat a CT scan, but no treatment for now.
How do I manage the pain? It's tolerable right now. I'm worried about it getting sharper and more painful. I have Norco from my last ER visit but that didn't really do anything for the pain. They even gave me some morphine while I was there and it didn't touch it. Does anyone have this? I'm already following a mostly low residue diet and will try to do breakfast and lunch at least as smoothies to see if that will help give my intestines a rest.
Thanks.
