Hello All,

I’m currently on Infliximab infusions every 6 weeks they seem to be working well enough. Even though lately I feel my skin (on my face) is extremely dry, sore and itchy. Not sure if that’s a common side effect. Anyway my doc advised me about the new injection pen that I can administer at home, have any of you tried this? I’m a bit apprehensive of it not sure why but he said he might be better as the drug is spread out more evenly in your system rather than getting a full blast of it on the one day every 6 weeks.

Any thoughts? Also an advantage doing it at home just cautious if for some reason it didn’t agree with me (I know it’s the same drug but you know 😊)

Your doctor's must be talking about Humira pen, which you can use for self-injection at home. Humira is just as effective as Infliximab. But Humira is administered very two weeks, so each time you get less medicine than Infliximab. Humira may give you less side effects because it is more evenly spread out. You need to make sure Humira is received cold because Humira must be stored at low tempature. Last time when I received Humira, the ice pack already melted and the medicine is no long cold enough. So I rejected the shipment and asked them to send another one.

No, it's infliximab, not Humira. Infliximab has recently been approved as a self-injection.

The advantages over the infusions are convenience for you and cost for your insurance (not having to pay an infusion center each time).

Hi All,

No like Beave mentioned it’s the Infliximab injection think it was approved a few months back. Assumed a lot more would be on it. Haven’t heard much on it. Definitely more convenient, finding my skin & lips are acting up a lot lately (rashes/sores) and wondering if it’s related to the Infliximab maybe hoping the injection dose could be better? Seem to be coming out with a rash on my face about 1/2 weeks before I’m due an infusion. Face is sore and itchy also, really bringing me down- like little raised red bumps all over my face!

God UC is a mind field, may be totally unrelated who knows!
