Ferritin 461

I'm certainly no expert here, but from what I understand, your ferritin will increase with an iron overload. After 3 iron infusions, this would certainly be a the likely cause. Iron infusions work extremely well at getting your iron up, but don't last forever. You might want to wait for a couple of months and get another blood workup done to see if your ferritin is come back down to normal. Your GI should be arranging follow-up treatment and referrals for PSC. Hopefully you get some answers soon. Keep us posted.

What type of iron did you get? How much? How long between?
Being a frequent iron getter😁 all things being involved, you need to know at least 2 things. Serum iron level and stored iron level. You should also have a test for tibc. Or total iron binding capacity. I highly doubt that infusions that long ago would still be affecting your current levels. I'm sure your Dr has checked your hemoglobin, hematocrit, and total iron.
One thing about low iron is that by the time it shows up in tests your body already has been stealing it from you organs. So when you have infusions your body uses a bunch to make red blood cells and then it returns any excess back to your organs and bone marrow etc... Depending on how depleted they were would determine the speed and amount of refilling your capacity. If your bleeding, poor diet etc.. This takes longer.

Leslie, hi . all the iron infusions are very dark so that doesn't help😁.
Just as a for instance reason 30+ years ago I used to get 1 liter of iron dextran every month . I don't remember how many milligrams after all these years. Eventually I had a bad reaction during a test dose and was branded allergic.
Since then I get 5 doses of iron sucrose twice a year for 5 weeks spring and fall. These are 250 milliliter bags at 100 mg. per bag. This seems to work better than one large does all at once for me.
