Hi, I read a post you wrote about pregnancy and taking asacol. You mentioned that you did not breast feed because of being on asacol. Just wondering if your doctor felt that you shouldn't because of your meds.

I had a baby four years ago and didn't breast feed because I was on asacol 4 pills 3 times a day (which I thought was a high dosage) and I got conflicting advice about if I could have nursed or not. For me I'm just trying to ease my guilt for not nursing. I feel like I should have gone off my meds or just nursed anyway because I have heard about other women nursing and being on meds. I was actually glad to see your post that you didn't nurse because of your meds either. I don't feel so alone. Guilt can be such a horrible thing and I was just trying to do the best for my child.

butting in here... DO NOT FEEL GUILTY for not having breastfed your baby!!! I hate that we live in a culture that pits moms against each other when we should support each other and all that we have to go through. For some years now in the U.S. baby formula has been regulated by the FDA and ALL formulas are required to contain certain ingredients ensuring that baby's get the max benefit possible nutritionally. It doesn't matter if you buy the fancy kind or the generic kind. I know so many formula-fed babies who are now strong and healthy and super smart. DO NOT beat yourself up. You made the very best decision you knew how to make in the moment that you were in. The pro-boob crew can really make you feel like an arse if you listen to them too much. (no offense to the breastfeeders - I've b/f'd both of my kids, while on my meds) I just think that we all have to look at our individual circumstance and make the best choice we can for our kids. Sounds like you did the very best you could. And 4 years later you should look at your beautiful child and know that she's not any less because you didn't breastfeed. ((((HUGS))))
