Hi everyone,

i was wondering how many of you have had a fistula which comes through your tummy and what meds you were given to help close it up. i got a fistula come through my old scar last sept had it operated on in jan but the stump is still there and still leaks iam due to see my consultant for the first time tomorrow and want to make sure he gives me all the options of meds for this and not just fob me off with the cheapest one!!!!! any info would be great thanks for reading Bev x

Sorry you are having problems. My fistula isn't in my abdomin, but I think the medication options are the same. The biologics (Remicade and Humira) appear to have the best results in closing fistulae. But they can be expensive depending on your insurance coverage. Remicade is given by infusion often every 8 weeks, and Humira in a self-injectable needle/pen every two weeks. 6MP sometimes can help as can Flagyl. Mine wasn't in my abdomen, but I had it during a time I had to get surgery so I was on intravenous antibiotics for a week and it went away.

My fistulas are in my rectum and run to my butt cheek......antibiotics and the threat of 'marsupialization' shrunk the thing down to a pinhead....which at this point I can live with, with the help of a little gauze...
