Not everyone will like my solution, but...
...I have uninstalled Adobe Flash from my computer. This means I can't watch most online videos. Some are watchable, but only if they are encoded with html5, which is the new up & coming video standard - but nearly 99% of online vids still require Flash. But to me, it's no big deal - I find most online videos a waste of time.
Without Adobe Flash, my browser is much faster, web pages never lock up, the computer even runs cooler. It's not unusual for Adobe Flash to consume 50% of your CPU's activity. And those Flash Monster Ads are banished (note: if the ad is a gif or jpeg, it will still be visible).
The other thing I like to turn off is javascript
. Trouble is that some web sites, including healingwell.com, require javascript
in order to fully function. On this forum, you can read pages without javascript
, but you'll need javascript
turned on if you want to login and post messages.
I use Gmail, and with javascript
off it still works, but some features are disabled.
With javascript
turned off, you get no pop-ups and pages load faster. No automatic redirection either - you have to click links in order to redirect.
Hope someone finds this info useful.
regards,
Robert
