New Here--Humira question.

Hi everyone! I am new here but not to Crohn's. I have been reading on this site alot and found some things very helpful! I just was brought back to the site after google-ing something and this site popped up so I figured I would just join!!!! =)

I have been on Humira for quite a while(over a year) and this past time I did something preeeeetty dumb. I forgot to use the alcohol prep before, I just stuck it in! =( IS THAT OK? I mean it seems ok other than it has some redness around the injection site that doesnt usually happen, but how big of a deal is it? has this ever happened to anyone else?

I cant believe I did that. the prep pad was RIGHT next to me. =(

The alcohol prep pad kills any bacteria that may be on the skin that could get pushed beneath the skin by the needle. It's not a good practice to continue, but will probably be ok. Keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get infected. You may want to call your dr and let him know what happened. He may want to start you on some antibiotics just in case or just tell you to watch it and if you start experiencing pain, swelling and heat at the injection site, definitely get to a dr ASAP.

I have done it also. Sometimes it seems like you spend all this time preparing that you leave out a step. I just swabbed it with the pad after and watched it for a couple of days. It was fine.
